When it comes right down to it, my mission is simple. To help bring about more ease and grace into your life and my own.
Here it is, it's time. I'm launching Yoga School this fall. A 200 hour Yoga Teacher training and self-development program. And I want to tell you all about it.
This has been in the works for the last many years. From the time I took my first training, 14 years ago, a Pilates training out West, I knew that I wanted to be leading trainings. I mean, I guess we could go even further back than that to when I was a kid and all I would do was lock myself in my room with my stuffed animals, and my poor little brother, and teach them. For hours, just teach them whatever was in my six year old brain.
It's in my bones. There is a yearning to share this information so deep, that I just can't wait any longer. But I will say this. I'm happy that I have waited this long. I've simply learned so much over the years - and have really had time to practice and teach and study and see what works and what doesn't (at least for me). I've been able to try out different things and learn about the body, the practice, different teaching styles as well as movement styles.
I've learned a lot about myself. Through all of this I've become a better student, a better teacher and a better person. I'm more sure of myself and my place in the world now, than ever before and so much of this can be attributed to the discoveries I've made through my yoga practice. There is such a certainty that is fueling this next step that the excitement is palpable. I can taste it. I can feel it tingling in my skull.
So here it is, Yoga School.
Why is this happening now?...
It almost feels like this is an extension of each group, each class, each workshop that I've done up until this point. It's simply that in those 75 minutes, or two hours or even ten hours together, it feels like we're just getting started and then it's time to move on. It simply doesn't feel like enough. So! I want more. I want to give you more. I want to see where we can go in a full in-depth, expansive seven months together.
What I'm hoping you'll get out of the program....
I'd like to teach you the tools to continue on a path of self-discovery. To receive some sort of insight into your own world, the yoga world and the world around you. To be inspired to keep on learning. To be infused with enough passion and curiosity to continue to ask questions - to continue to brush up against the edge of challenge in order to grow. I want you to leave the training with enough know-how and courage to share what you've learned with others. Not necessarily in a class setting (although you will be prepared for that), but to share it with your partner, your family, co-workers and friends and community. To embrace the practice with such openness that it seeps into your cells and oozes out in the way you speak, think and behave. I want this to ignite change. Not just to become a yoga teacher, but to truly embrace a yogic lifestyle. One filled with more compassion, ease and grace.
Here are the deets....
It's a 200 hour yoga teacher training and self-development program. (Yoga Alliance Registered) That will be based in the Hatha yoga tradition. You will learn the ins and outs of the classic Hatha yoga postures as well as how to intelligently and creatively sequence them together in the Vinyasa yoga style.
You will learn anatomy, both physical and the subtle body. We will spend quite a bit of time on the energetics of the practice. Pranayama, mythology, meditation, chakras, mantras.
I have a background in Pilates and have found that this training has informed my yoga classes more than anything else, as far as how I approach the physicality of the practice. There will be a module on Pilates for you to learn the Pilates principles as well as how to to properly move and engage from the core 'center' of the body.
In order to balance out the yang aspect of the practice, you will also learn fundamentals of yin yoga and restorative.
This will be rooted in yoga, informed by Pilates and inspired by the energy body.
Other modules include:
working with sound / sound healing
art of assisting
business of yoga
This program is for those looking to teach, as well as those simply looking for an opportunity to spend some time in personal study and reflection. My goal is to leave you with an in-depth understanding of the practice as well as the confidence to share what you've learned. Whether in a class setting or even to friends and family.
It will begin September 12th, 2018 and run until mid-April. It will be held Wednesday nights 6-10pm throughout the seven months in a four on and one off type fashion. So we'll meet four weeks in a row and there will be a week off - repeat. Over the course of the program there will be four intensive weekends. (there will be one month off over the winter holidays).
The cost is $3200 + hst. (payment plans available).
Location: 213 Sterling Rd, Toronto
It will be a small group, max 12 students. So lots of time for introspection and questions to ensure you really 'get' what's being taught.
I'm so excited for this. It wakes me up and kicks me out of bed in the morning type excitement. I hope you can come along for the ride. Please message me with any questions. Let me know if you'd like to reserve a space. And if you have friends who you think may be into this sort of thing, please pass it along.

Yin yoga is a beautiful complement to a more dynamic movement practice. It works more specifically with the connective tissues and joints in the body and is a great way to increase range of motion and flexibility. As a result of the passive and meditative component of the practice, it helps to calm the mind and balance out a busy life. Yin yoga enhances our vitality and overall health.
We are living a very yang lifestyle, the idea is to infuse our life with a yin sensibility. There is so much to be gained from really embodying the basic principles of yin yoga - playing your edge, stillness and time. We are able to walk away with a deeper understanding of ourselves and the space needed to share this wisdom with others.
This training is for yoga teachers and serious practitioners alike. As well as any body workers who are looking for a new edge to their offerings. Yin yoga could be just the thing you are looking for.
In this training we will cover:
~ the philosophy behind yin yoga and where it came from.
~ yin yang theory
~ the fundamental yin yoga postures - how to modify, proper use of props, and energetic connection
~ Chakra Essentials and the energy body
~ a few key restorative yoga postures
~ the basics of mindfulness meditation
~ compassionate touch
~ how to teach a yin yoga class - how to sequence and theme an effective class
