School is now in session
live online
Stay tuned for 2022 start date!
Yoga School is a 200 hour Yoga Teacher training and self-development program designed just for you.
A unique program that evolves as you evolve. The program takes place over the course of seven months. Allowing lots of time for you to digest and integrate the material into your practice and your life.
"Working with multiple facets of yogic philosophy and beyond, Yoga School allowed me to develop and find what worked for my own personal practice, and left me with confidence and a heart full of loving-kindness." ~ Leah
The quick facts....
In the program, you will learn the ins and outs of the classic Hatha yoga tradition, as well as how to intelligently and creatively sequence the postures together using the system of wise progression, Vinyasa Krama.
This will be rooted in yoga, informed by Pilates and inspired by the energy body.
This program is for those looking to teach, as well as those simply looking for an opportunity to spend some time in personal study and self-reflection. The intention is to leave you with an in-depth understanding of yourself and the practice, as well as the confidence to share what you've learned.
This training is for the change-makers. Those who are ready to truly embrace a yogic lifestyle. One filled with more compassion, ease and grace.
If you feel there is more to life than what you are living - this is for you.
If you are into empowering yourself and empowering others - this is for you.
If curiosity fills your soul, and community lifts your spirit - this is for you
Now, a little more....
What I'm hoping you'll get out of the program....
I'd like to teach you the tools to continue on a path of self-discovery. To receive some sort of insight into your own world, the yoga world and the world around you. To be inspired to keep on learning. To be infused with enough passion and curiosity to continue to ask questions - to continue to brush up against the edge of challenge in order to grow. I want you to leave the training with enough know-how and courage to share what you've learned with others. Not necessarily in a class setting (although you will be prepared for that), but to share it with your partner, your family, co-workers and friends and community. To embrace the practice with such openness that it seeps into your cells and oozes out in the way you speak, think and behave. I want this to ignite change. Not just to become a yoga teacher, but to truly embrace a yogic lifestyle. One filled with more compassion, ease and grace.
"Yoga School is more than a course. It’s more than a certification. It’s an introduction to another way of being. It’s an open door into a community of like-minded individuals. It’s an invitation to push the limits of what you thought was possible. It is a place where laughter, encouragement, love and self-discovery abounds." ~Madeleine
Here are the deets....
You will learn anatomy, both physical and the subtle body. The program is a well-balanced experience of physical and philosophical. The content is evenly spread across the foundational yoga tools of asana (posture), pranayma (breath), meditation and philosophy.
I have a background in Pilates and have found that this training has informed the way I approach the physical component of a yoga practice more than anything else. There will be a module on Pilates for you to learn the Pilates principles as well as how to properly move and engage from the core 'center' of the body.
In order to balance out the yang aspect of the practice, you will also learn fundamentals of yin yoga and restorative.
Other modules include:
essentials in energetics
art of sequencing
prenatal
functional anatomy
yoga philosophy
yoga nidra
business of yoga
"After extensive research on where to take my yoga teacher training, I came across Shawna’s page and it was love at first “site”. Her wealth of knowledge and ability to practice what she preaches, both on and off the mat, is truly inspirational. The structure and flow of each class created a safe space that allowed for personal growth and reflection. As promised by Shawna, I definitely learned “the tools to face discomfort with ease” and I will forever be grateful to this beautiful and magical soul for this transformation." ~Stef

"I stumbled upon Shawna Turner’s YTT completely by chance and it became one of my favourite life milestones. Shawna’s passion for the history of yoga is infectious; her storytelling will engulf you and completely reframe how you think about yoga. Her approach to anatomy is incredibly disciplined, ensuring that you have all the tools you need to lead a safe and intelligent class and self-practice. She fuses all facets of yoga into one beautiful bouquet of inspiration. The space she holds creates a welcoming and supportive community. Because of Shawna’s yoga school I have not only gained a wealth of knowledge, but such a sacred and special group of friends too." ~Alina
A bit more on what people are saying...
"I really like the format of our time together, meeting every week for a few hours and going back into the real life helped anchor the practice into my day to day life. I think it changed perspective in my life because it was not drastic, it was not a brutal change ( like taking 3 or 4 weeks off to do the training) it was incorporated into my life and as Shawna would say it's a transmutation, an experience that deeply change you more on a cellular level. We had weekly assignment ( books to read, sequence to craft, art work to do....) as well as going to some yoga practice or doing some meditation on our own. It was a great way of keeping the energy going and we always had stuff to share with the group after that.
I think that one of the best aspect of YTT is actually the group itself and the synergy that happened when you are in a group of like minded people, you gain in confidence, in trust and you can unleashed your best potential.
And of course let's not forget about Shawna, she obviously played a major role in making that training a life experience. She is a well of knowledge and knows what we need and when we need it, the information is not dumped on us it's intelligently given to us at the right time when it's necessary.
It's a beautiful experience that will let you crave for more." ~Jean-Francois
"Before Yoga School, I attended many of Shawna’s classes at Ahmisa Yoga. When I discovered she would be launching her very own 200hr YYT, I had this aching desire to commit to the program because of her poetic and graceful way of cueing and sequencing. I didn't expect to come out of the program with such a deeper understanding of myself in the process. Shawna delivered an incredible amount of information to us in a way that not only brought enlightenment, but would become ingrained within our entire beings. Her love for Yoga encouraged us to find our own admiration and interest for this lifestyle and I can say with confidence that I’m now walking through my everyday life with heightened awareness and ease." ~Robyn
"Doing any type of yoga training can be transformative. Doing Yoga School in Toronto with Shawna was super special. We became a loving family who grew together, supported one another, and learned discipline, forgiveness, compassion, meditation, asanas, chakras, and so much more that can’t be explained through my words. She was there for each and every one of us as individuals but also enabled us to come together as a community. Shawna articulates poetically and clearly at the same time, incorporating great ancient philosophies and simple human experiences that are relatable. The dedication to her work is noticeable and inspiring. She has a well rounded, balanced yoga philosophy and practice that encourages you to work harder and become more creative, learning to sit with yourself and deepen your inner awareness. These lessons that you will learn through this training will seep into your bones and become apart of you, leaving you a better human than before." ~ Madi
"Yoga School is a special place that will enhance your practice, transform your life and provide the foundations and tools to becoming a great teacher!
Shawna Turner is a genuine and authentic soul, whose knowledge of the Ancient teachings in Yoga are infused in everything she does and teaches. She has a deep love and respect for yoga which serves as a source of energy and inspiration for her students. Her dedication to continued practice and learning only deepens the experience and wisdom she shares. Each week, Shawna creates an inviting, safe and sacred space to start class and ease the transition from a busy day into a positive learning environment. She teaches from the heart, often incorporating poetry, quotes or stories throughout the class, weaving in a soulful or inspiration theme that connects what we are learning. The class schedule allows for time to absorb the course material and practice what you’ve learned before building upon her teachings the following week. Her small class size provides an encouraging, inclusive and supported community that allows for continual growth during the time at yoga school and after it’s completion. You’ll leave each session feeling inspired, excited and very grateful, empowering you to live your yoga practice on and off the mat." ~Kim
